Danira Rocio's Amazing Journey

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the Lord,
“My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
-- Psalm 91:1-2

UPDATE as of December 8, 2015: Hey Everyone!! Rebecca and I wanted to give an update on Danira Rocio. Yesterday (December 7) Pastor Braulio went and paid for the titanium plate with the money that was raised. It is on its way to Los Mochis from the state of Queretero. Praise God!  He was also able to put a small deposit on the the hospital care (among other costs) that she will need both before and after the operation.

She we be checking into the hospital tomorrow (Wed) and will be operated on, Lord willing, Thurs or Fri.
Keep praying that God will work this out for His glory and for her good and also that all the costs would be provided for. Thank you to all who have prayed and given!! Thank you Jesus!! Please pass this along to those who are following Rocio's story.

UPDATE as of December 5, 2015:
Please join us in praying for Danira Rocio (read her story below). We have good news! We have been able to raise $2650. The surgeon informed us yesterday that he would perform the surgery for $4060, which is the current cost of the plate. This amount is almost $1500 less than we thought it would cost! He is donating his services to help her. This means that we're only lacking about $1400! The surgeon also said that he can do the operation on Tuesday, December 8, if we can purchase the plate on Monday. This is a miracle that they can get her into surgery before Christmas! I can't think of a better way to celebrate Christmas than to see Rocio get this operation. Pray with us that God would continue to work and provide!
Thank you to everyone who has prayed and donated to this cause! God is so good!!!
If you'd like to pledge to help Rocio purchase the titanium plate, please message us right away. -- Doug and Rebecca
----------------------------------------------------------
Two years ago, Danira Rocio Lopez Cruz, a young lady from the small fishing village of Boca del Rio, Sinaloa, was involved in an accident which left her in a coma with a fractured skull. Doctors and family alike were uncertain whether she would live or die. After several long weeks, Rocio awoke from the coma with a fervent desire to live and to serve God. She told her family that God had rescued her so that she would be able to preach and tell others about Him.
The doctors, however, weren't convinced that she would survive and were skeptical that she would ever walk. More than likely, they said, she will be a vegetable for the rest of her life, if she lives at all. Because the family is very poor and they had no medical insurance, Rocio was sent home to recuperate as best she could in May of 2014. Part of her damaged skull had been removed due to brain swelling and infection. A titanium plate needed to be inserted to replace the missing bone, but funds were not available and the doctors were doubtful that she would live.
A year later, in April of 2015, Rocio walked down to the ocean's edge with a group of youth and adults to be baptized. God has done an amazing healing work in her body, and her attitude and positive outlook are such an encouragement to all who meet her.
So now here we are nearly two years after her accident, and she still is missing part of her cranium. Skin has covered the wound and this lovely young lady wears her hair long and hanging down to cover the unsightly bulge. She walks slowly, with a noticeable limp and with the help of a cane. Her right arm is strong and mobile, but her left doesn't respond well. Our hope and prayer is that once she has the operation to repair her skull, her brain will continue to repair itself and she will regain the use of her left side. Lately she has been having headaches and she struggles with fatigue, but through it all, she remains positive and keeps giving the glory to God.
Local doctors and surgeons have offered to donate their services to perform the operation. Another organization wants to help her with therapy afterwards. The only thing missing is the extremely expensive titanium plate. We've been told that it will cost about $5500 (U.S. dollars).
Our local church and youth group began raising funds for Rocio about two months ago and have gathered nearly $1000. We're excited about this good beginning, but the goal seems huge in a village where the average daily wage is about $5. Our desire is to have all the money necessary before Christmas and to schedule the operation before the end of this year.
With your help, we can do this!!!

Coult Family's Mexico Update -- Fall 2014

To Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever!
-- Ephesians 3:20-21

As you may know by now, we are currently traveling in the States. You may also know that we have petitioned the Mexican government for a missionary visa for our work in Mexico. We received our temporary residence stickers today! Hurrah!!! We appreciate all of your prayers for this matter, becuase we know that they helped us immensely!!!  When we return to Mexico in October, we will be finalizing this process, so continue to pray about this.

While we are traveling through the Southwest and West Coast areas, we'd love to see all of you, but we realize that won't be possible. We have, however, included our itinerary for the next month and a half. We hope that you will come to see us or call us/message us when we are in your area, so we can try to get together with you.
  • August 17 -- Woodland Bible Church, Woodland CA
  • August 24 -- in Bend OR for our niece's wedding
  • August 31 and September 7  -- at New Hope Church, Winston OR

PRAYERS, PRAISES and PROJECTS:
  • Praise God for healing Benjamin (The man in Puebla whose house we are building.).  In his last test, he had no signs of cancer or tumors anywhere in his system!!!
  • Praise God for growth in our ministry.  We are currently working directly in numerous villages in six states in Mexico evangelizing and planting churches.
  • Pray that God would give us the ability to continue to support and encourage the missionaries/pastors whom God is raising up to work in each of these missions:
    • Las Flores, Sinaloa -- Braulio and Pily
    • Boca del Rio, Sinaloa -- Joaquin and Luz
    • Celaya, Guanajuato -- Ricardo and Cristina

  • Pray that God would provide a small, reasonably-priced sound system for the Upper Room.
  • We will be taking two American missionaries down with us in October.  Pray that they are able to make a smooth transition and that God would grow them and use them mightily during their time there.
  • We have a desire to help the Church in Patla, Puebla, open a coffee processing plant.   Pray also for a possible business of selling, building and installing solar hot water heaters in areas where hot water would otherwise be unavailable as a way to provide resources for ministry.  We are looking for people who are willing to help with research on these projects.  Both opportunities look promising, but we are praying for direction.
God continues to surprise and challenge us with new opportunities for ministry in Mexico.  he is ever-expanding our borders as we learn to trust in Him.  Please be praying about the specific ministry opportunities mentioned above.  May God teach you to ask for and believe in Him to do the impossible!!!

The Ramirez Family: Ricardo and Cristina, Damaris, Jahaziel and Sarah
The Aguilar Family: Joaquin and Luz, Kevin, Eimy and Alondra

Missionaries in training: Jeremias, Sarah and Jessee

Coult Update -- April/May 2014

You are the light of the world.
A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
-- Matthew 5:14

The format of our update letter is a little bit different this month. Normally our prayer requests and praise reports are at the end of the letter, but this time we're putting them first.  Please feel free to print them out and post them where you will be reminded to pray for our family and our ministry during the next month. We greatly covet your prayers!!!

Prayers and Praises:
  • Praise God for a fruitful and refreshing visit to the States in March.  We had a great visit with friends and family (although we didn't get to visit everyone we wanted to visit), and were able to touch bases with a couple of church families along the way.  At the end of March, we said goodbye to another one of our kids as Seth set off on his way to Oregon.  He is currently working at the Wildlife Safari in Winston, living with our pastor and praying about what God would have him do next.
  • Pray for God's wisdom in our kids' lives as they make decisions daily.  Pray that they would continue to "run the race to win the prize".
  • Pray for the continued discipleship of men and women here in Las Glorias.
  • Praise God for the two mission teams we have hosted during the past couple of months.  Photos are included below of some of the things we accomplished.  We really enjoyed both teams and were extremely encouraged by their visits.
  • Praise God for the completion of a "palapa" on Joaquin's property (photos below).  We have already been able to use it as a place for prayer and worship, and we pray that many more gatherings will be held there.  This large, shaded area will also facilitate the building of Joaquin and Luz' house.
  • Pray for their house!  We recently got word that the Aguilar family was accepted into a government program which will give them a 2-bedroom house for about a tenth of the actual cost of the house.  Through generous donations of supporters in California, we have raised the total amount of money necessary.  Now, we only have to wait for the materials to arrive.  Pray that the materials will arrive in a timely manner, that the weather will cooperate (no hurricanes until after the roof is poured!), and that God will be glorified in every step of this process!  Lord willing, we'll begin construction in July.
  • Pray for Doug, Jessee and Julio as they take a follow-up mission trip to places we visited in February further south in Mexico.  They will be leaving May 14 and returning June 4.
  • Pray specifically for a work that they desire to do near the city of Puebla.  A young Christian brother there is fighting cancer and desires to have a house for his wife and small children.  We have gathered some money to start construction and are praying that God will provide to finish the project.  (If you'd like to get involved in this project financially, please send us an email, and we can give you more specifics.)  Pray that God would be glorified in this project.  Also, pray for healing for this young man (his name is Esteban).  We know that we have a big God!  Pray that God would shine in his life and in his family.
  • On our trip south in February, God showed us the great need for workers in central Mexico.  Pray with us as we look at supporting, training and networking with pastors and missionaries in areas where less than .5% of the population know Jesus.  Again, let us know if you would like to give financially to this cause. We will be sending out more information as the plan develops.
  • Praise God for you, our supporters. Without your support and prayers, none of what we are able to do in Mexico would be possible.THANK YOU!!

Andrew's workshop before renovations.
Mission team #1 was from Oregon.  Two couples traveled down with us at the end of March. With their help, we we able to build and install two new doors on the bathrooms that we started last fall at the church building in the nearby village of Las Flores.  Another project they worked on was transforming what used to be Andrew's workshop, pictured above, into a playhouse for the many children who come here.
Doug and Lloyd putting on railings.
Step one of this project was building an access ramp and a railing.  Then we all pitched in and started painting.
The new children's playhouse at the Aposento Alto.
Here is the finished project.  This photo was taken last week when we had a family with young children staying with us.  What a blessing!!!
Donna and Ramon at the Amole baseball game.
The Oregon team was a real encouragement to our Tuesday night group, and they made a special connection with the kids in our village.  We were able to attend two little league baseball games with Coach Joaquin, one at home in Boca and one in the village of Amole.  It really made the game special for the team to have a whole row of "grandparents" rooting for them.  This picture was taken right after Ramon scored a run.

Before the team returned to Oregon, we were able to walk to the top of the hill on Joaquin's property to pray over the area.  We were praying that God would supply the money and workers necessary to build a structure there very soon.
A cup of cold water -- beach outreach during Semana Santa.
Mission team #2 came to us from California.  This was the first time we had a mission team visit us during Semana Santa, so it was very different!  One day we set up a canopy on the beach and gave away cups of cold water.  During the 4 hours we were there, we were able to give away 500 cups with Bible verses taped on them.  Several people stopped to ask questions, and we gave away several hundred Christian tracts as well.  It was interesting how many people were skeptical of a cup of water "free" on the beach!  Many times we had to insist, "Yes!  It's free!  Keep the cup."
It took 5 hours to move the lumber from the bottom of the hill, where the trailer was stuck, to the top of the hill where the palapa would be built.
And God did, indeed, provide for building to begin on Joaquin's property.  During the week that the team was here, the men were able to build a 20 by 20 foot structure.  Simply getting the materials from the bottom of the hill, where the trailer was stuck in the sand, to the top was a real chore; that part took them 5 hours.
Construction begins on Joaquin's property.
After a couple of days of watering and packing down the sand, they were able to drive the cars a little farther up the hill!
A family from Sacramento, California, came to help.
A couple of young men from Boca came to help with the roofing.  It was a good team effort!!!
An inaugural prayer service was held on Resurrection Sunday.
Easter Sunday, we rejoiced with our Christian family in the new prayer shelter on Joaquin's property.  Joaquin and Luz shared their gratitude to God and proclaimed His faithfulness.  They are excited to be one step closer to having their own home, too.

Heading South -- February Prayer Update

Hola to all our friends and family around the world!  Here's a short note about what we are doing this month:

Monday morning, February 3, we will be embarking on a three-week mission to Southern Mexico.  Our final destination is Veracruz, where we will be surveying the Coyutla Totonacos, an unreached people group in Central Veracruz.  Please pray that God would give us wisdom as we look at the possibility of planting a church among them in the future.

Along the way, we will be stopping in several places to encourage the Church with outreaches and teaching times and service projects.  These places include Quimichis, Nayarit; Union de San Antonia, Jalisco; Celaya, Queretaro; Coyutla, Veracruz and Minatitlan, Veracruz.

These are all missions or people whom we have connected with in one way or another during our eight years in Mexico, and we are excited about coming alongside them in their work and also reuniting in our common love of Christ Jesus.

Five members from our home church in Oregon, including our daughter Sarah, will be joining us 10 hours south of here in Guadalajara.  We will also be bringing along four of the members of the Las Glorias fellowship.  We are expecting big things from our amazing God on this three-week journey.  Please be praying with us specifically from the prayer guide below.  Thank you so much for your support and prayers for our family and our mission.

Mission team members and their families from Las Glorias and Guasave met to pray together at our house las Wednesday.  Lupita shared with the team how God has miraculously healed a blocked artery.
Pray for the Veracruz Mission Team:
  • Mexico Team members:   The Coult Family (Doug and Rebecca, Sarah, Jessee, Seth, Andrew and Evie), Julio and Lupita, Basilia, Kevin, Fabian and Pastor Misael
  • Oregon Team members: Pastor David, Pastor Kevin, Gary and Bethany
  • Many areas we will be going to have less than 1% evangelical Christians.  Pray that God would help us find houses of peace among them.
  • Pray that God would give physical strength for each team member.  Lupita has had heart issues in the past, but has recently been (miraculously) given a clean bill of health.  Pray that God would help her to walk in this new healing.  Also, both Rebecca and Lupita are still struggling with a cough leftover from bad colds.  Pray for continued healing in their bodies and that God would protect the team from illness.
  • Pray for provision of physical needs: food, gas, no car problems, no travel issues, etc.
  • Pray for Joaquin and Luz who will be staying in our house and heading up the ministry here in Las Glorias while we’re gone.
  • Pray for spiritual discernment as each team member journals daily and asks God how He might want us to work long-term with the people we meet.
  • Pray that if God wants to call specific team members to full-time missions, they would hear Him clearly.

Summer Activities 2013

Romans 1:16 -- For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, "The righteous shall live by faith."

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We are wrapping things up here in Sinaloa and preparing for a two-month-long furlough in the States (see schedule below). We are looking forward to seeing as many of you as we can during our time in Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington!

Yesterday we finished construction on the bathrooms at the small church that Braulio pastors in Las Flores. We praise God for the funding and the generosity of His people in helping financially with this project. This week we are hosting a four-day VBS in that same village. The low-ceiling building that the Church meets in is only about 15'x15' (that's feet, not meters). We are expecting 60 to 80 children to attend the VBS. Because of the small building, most of the activities will be held outside. Here is where we need your help! Today it is raining, and the only way into Las Flores is a five mile drive on a dirt road, making it nearly impossible to enter while it's raining. We want to bless this church in Las Flores and the children that live there, and we want to share the gospel and God's love with them. Would you pray with us that God would hold the rain back until Sunday afternoon? Pray that He will give us wisdom on how to proceed. Thank you! I've included a couple of pictures.

These are the bathrooms. Keep in mind "finished" is a relative term!

Here are some of the ladies from the congregation here in Las Glorias preparing for the VBS. This is a huge milestone! We have 8 men and women (not including our family) participating in the school. Praise God for growth!

Coult Update -- February 2013

Hello friends, family and supporters!

We wanted to let you all know that tomorrow we are starting the third module of MBS pastoral training here in Las Glorias, Sinaloa, Mexico. Once again, God has provided for travel for the teachers, purchase of the course books, housing and food for the ten day conference. Our wonderful provider never ceases to amaze and surprise us! The provision did not come from where we expected it, but it came at just the right time and we are grateful.

This is the fruit stand where we purchase fruits and veggies every week -- including this week, when we purchased produce for Master's Bible School.  The majority of Don Trino's produce is grown only a few meters up the road, just behind his fields of roses.

Thank you to those of you who have been praying for us, and also thank you to those of you whose hearts God has touched to support this ministry.

Please continue to pray for the following:
  • Strength for the staff (teachers and kitchen crew)
  • Pray that we will move at His pace and not our own.
  • Spiritual and physical health for all
  • For everyone to learn as much as we can in these ten days
  • Pray against the enemy and his schemes
  • We still have a few pastors that want to be at the study but aren’t able to because of either travel costs are lack of funds to leave their families for the 10 days or both. Ask God that He would do a miracle and allow these men to attend. Pray about helping them to be here.
  • Pray for everyone who is striving to graduate from the school!
In His Strength,
Doug and Rebecca

“I would most gladly spend and be spent for your souls”

Update from the Coult Family -- Happy New Year!

O sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things!!! -- Psalm 98:1
Monday night, shortly before midnight, a motorcycle roared into our driveway.  It was our friend, Alfredo, who had come to borrow our pick-up truck.  His wife was in labor and he needed to get her to the hospital right away.  Tuesday morning we got a call from Alfredo's mom.  "It's a boy!" He was born at 12:30 a.m.  We praise God that we were able to help Alfredo and his family!  Thank you, again, to those of you who participated in the purchase of our little Chevy pick-up.  It's most definitely being used in the ministry here!!!

Life is busy as usual, but we wanted to take a moment to wish you a happy new year and tell you that we are praying for you;  We are asking God to fulfill His will in your life in a greater way this year.

2012 was a year full of blessings for us here in Mexico.  We have had the privilege of seeing God change lives through His word, His spirit and His provision.  We have experienced a few changes this year as well.  Our two oldest, Sarah and Caleb, are stepping out in God's calling on their lives.  Sarah spent the latter part of 2012 at Tres Cruces Master's Bible School in Ensenada as she continued her pursuit of teaching/ministering in God's kingdom.  As our ministry is expanding, we are praying towards her coming back to work with us in Sinaloa for a season.  Caleb has also been pursuing a certification at Master's Bible School which he will be receiving in February.  His plan is to travel to the States in March where he will begin the application process into a welding school in Butte County, California.

This year, we have taken on some new responsibilities with the Vida Nueva Church.  Doug is now managing the mission facilities in Las Glorias and is heading up some new construction projects for the Vida Nueva Church in Alamito.  Our friends and co-workers, the Petit family, have moved stateside for a season to raise funds for the churches and lead mission teams down to Mexico.  Pray for them as they adjust to these changes in their lives as well.

One of our main projects in 2012 was hosting Master's Bible School.  This school consists of three ten-day modules, of which we have completed two.  God has been so faithful in providing for every need of the first two modules and in February, Lord willing, we will host the third.  We are so grateful for the pastors and leaders who have received this training!  We are praying that 30 will graduate from the school and receive their certification in February.

We continue to host weekly youth meetings and monthly youth events here at the "Aposento Alto" (Spanish for "Upper Room").  In December, nearly 100 youth attended our end-of-the-year youth outreach/pizza party.  Continue to pray for these young people and for our family as we reach out to share Jesus' love with them!

Prayers and Praises:
  • Pray for our children as they seek God's direction in their lives.  Specifically pray for Sarah and Caleb as they begin to step out in faith on their own.
  • Pray for God's provision in Module 3 of Master's Bible School.  The cost of this module will be about $1300.
  • Pray that all of the pastors and leaders will be able to return to finish the Bible school in February.
  • Praise God for the new addition to our home fellowship -- Alfredo and Heidi's new baby!
  • Praise God for the youth who are attending our weekly youth meetings, the men attending the weekly Bible study and baseball outreach, the women attending the weekly Bible study, and all of the families who are now attending our weekly fellowship time.  God is growing His Church!

All According to Plan

Just wanted to let everyone know --

The wood arrived!!!

Thank you for your notes of encouragement and for your prayers. We would have written sooner, but our internet has been down. We're learning to accept this as a fact of life: internet is not dependable.

Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

What a great month of faith-building this has been!!!

The truckload of wood arrived on Saturday and our crew of workers made short work of unloading and stacking it. Along with the lumber, they brought doors for the center, which the owner of the lumber yard donated. Wow!

Evie playing "Queen of the Mountain" inside the conference center.

The next step is to prepare the wood by planing it and treating it for termites.

After the boards are planed and stained, we set them on end to dry -- they are still pretty "green", which makes them a little heavy. We're hoping that they'll be more dry by the time the men need to lift them 20 feet in the air!

Today, Thursday, we're all working busily, preparing for mission teams which will be arriving tomorrow. Please keep these teams in your prayers over the next day as they travel and during the next 2 weeks as they work and minister here. We have several outreaches planned including a Christmas party at the migrant camp, a time in the local prison and a dinner for couples in the church. Pray specifically for physical safety as the men work on the roof, for wisdom and insight as the mission team interacts with each other and with the Mexican people, for the families of the Vida Nueva church, and for the families in the migrant camp.

We hope to post pictures on our blog throughout the weeks, but we'll see how the internet works!

Blessings to you and your family as you prepare to spend time together this holiday season! We pray that relationships are strengthened, that memories are made and that God is glorified in your homes!

Building Update/Prayer Request

Hello everyone!

A quick note to ask you to pray. As many of you know, mission teams from Oregon and Arizona will be coming down in a couple of weeks to put a roof on the new conference/youth center. I just got off the phone with the wood people, and the wood for the project next month has not arrived. I ordered it over a month ago, knowing that it might take some time to get it. It was supposed to come out of the mill last week and have been treated with that green stuff for termites and been laid out and drying the past week.

I'm not panicking yet. I was told this morning that the wood will arrive tomorrow and that 2 weeks should be sufficient drying time. However, I've learned that in this culture tomorrow isn't always exactly tomorrow ;^). (And by the way, that's okay with most people here.)

God has been so faithful and people have been very generous as we have worked on this project. We also have seen God's hand at work repeatedly over the past weeks and we know that He is ultimately in control. I just think that he wants us to seek Him more.

Please join me in praying that this wood order will arrive ready to build with by Dec. 15. Also pray for the teams which will be traveling down here the same date. Pray for peace as we trust in Him and that nothing would hinder the work that God has begun here!

Doug

Mission Trip to Quimichis 2011

We would like to share a photo of the team which will be heading south to Quimichis, Nayarit, next week. Please continue to pray for safe travels and physical well-being. Pray also for God's guidance and that His will be done in this adventure.

It's been several years since we actually went on a "mission trip" as a family, and we are very excited about this opportunity. Pray for unity in our team and in our family as well. We'll try to post updates at our family blog site, but might only have time for the occasional Facebook Post. I would imagine that "down time" will be a rare thing next week!

January 2011 Update -- Heart of Worship Conference

John 4:23 But the hour is coming, and now is,when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him.

The past couple of months have been like a whirlwind in our life and ministry here! Doug has stepped in as area youth leader for the Vida Nueva churches, our weekly Bible study continues in Las Glorias, parenting and children's classes are finishing up in Tamazula and we've been helping with music at a new fellowship which has begun in the village of El Serrano.

We wanted to send out a brief letter to let you all know what's going on with us and ask for your prayers for an event we're doing this weekend.

“Desde el Interior” (The Heart of Worship) is the name of the first annual youth worship conference/retreat being held in our village this weekend. The focus is unity in the Body of Christ and true worship which flows naturally from the heart. We have nearly 80 people signed up to stay the weekend, and they’ll begin arriving today at about 5pm.

We covet your prayers! Please pray for this weekend!
Pray for:

• Unity in the Body of Christ as we gather youth and leaders from 10 different churches
• That God would give the speakers the words He wants them to speak
• That the hearts of the youth would be touched and that they would have eyes to see, ears to hear and hearts to understand
• Safety for the youth as they travel here and also as they run around being youth
• For the ladies who will be working in the kitchen – that there would be unity and peace there as well!

This photo was taken at a worship service in El Serrano, a small village about 2 hours from our home. We’ve been helping the Iglesia Vida Nueva plant a church there. The Church meets outside behind one of the brother’s houses, since there is no church building available in the village.
